Black Dogs Combat Club is a private combat sports academy located in Salinas CA, with a focus on grappling heavy MMA you will learn kickboxing, judo, wrestling, muay thai, sambo, and brazilian jiujitsu as one complete unified system. The BLACK DOGS COMBAT CLUB balances intensity and competence with a tight knit fun loving and welcoming community with an emphasis on safe and effective training practices.
Coaches AND AFFILIATION
BLACK DOGS COMBAT CLUB is affiliated with TRUE MVMT under head coach Benji Silva. Silva is a 2nd degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, accomplished submission grappler, and MMA competitor with more than 15 years of experience in combat sports. His background includes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, no-gi grappling, MMA, Muay Thai/kickboxing, boxing, wrestling, and strength and conditioning. He has earned two No-Gi World Championships and a Pan American Championship, and has competed at events including the ADCC North American Trials, ADCC Opens, IBJJF, WNO, Submission Underground, and Fight 2 Win.
A part of Silva's recent journey has been his relationship with BLACK DOGS COMBAT CLUB. After several years of training with the club's assistant coach, Robert Batson, at CTA. Silva then visited the BLACK DOGS training facility initially for a seminar opportunity, this led to relationship building with the team and developing a connection with the gym's athletes and coaches. That relationship ultimately led Silva to align with BLACK DOGS COMBAT CLUB as his first affiliate gym, creating a partnership based on shared development and like minded approach to training competition and culture.
As part of that relationship, Silva has also taken an active role in evaluating and developing BLACK DOGS athletes. He awarded Robert Batson and Austin Metreyeon their brown belts, recognizing their technical ability, progression, and overall skill after assessing their development as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners.
Silva's affiliation with Black Dogs represents a shared commitment to the growth of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, mixed martial arts, and the athletes within the two teams.
AUSTIN METREYEON- Head Coach, Lifetime martial artist, 32 years training experience including Muay Thai, Kickboxing, MMA, BJJ,Judo, and Sambo
ROBERT BATSON- Assistant Coach, 14 years of wrestling and jiujitsu, including 8 years training experience at Caio Terras on the competition team, Robert also holds a brown belt in BJJ.
